Instructor Karen helps you rediscover the wonders of outdoors by hand building garden creatures, toad & cricket houses, pots for plants, plant markers & more!
Decorate your leather-hard pieces by carving designs & your bisque-fired pieces with colorful glazes. Make your garden a happy place for all of Earth's creatures.

Karen Flynn has a degree in design from the University of Minnesota and has been working in ceramics for years. “I enjoy handbuilding functional pottery and whimsical pieces.”

And, because it's Zoom, here's more info...You'll make as many things as you can by hand building them; pinching, coiling and working with slabs of clay. Pick up your supplies a week or two before your camp starts, then we'll meet (via zoom) from 9:30-Noon each day of camp. Return your box with the supplies and the carefully packed finished pieces and we'll fire them. About 3 weeks later your fired work will be ready for pick up!
Zoom is so easy, if you haven't tried it yet! You will get an invite to join, daily, and you'll just click on that to get into class. If you'd like to practice once ahead of time, we're glad to help.

Supplies include: Plenty of clay, colorful underglazes to decorate your boxes, cloth to create on, carving and other necessary tools. You supply the table to work on and a device for zooming. Each student should have a working area about three feet by three feet. None of the clay/underglaze will stain clothing or carpeting, but we recommend you work in a room that can be mopped. To keep any dust to a minimum work areas should be cleaned up with water, not swept with a broom or vacuumed.

NOTE: CHILDREN UNDER 5TH GRADE MUST HAVE AN AT-HOME HELPER. Any other family members wanting to join the fun and have their own box of creative goodies, may register for $130. Because this is discounted, you will need to say "pay by check" and then call us so we can run your card, if you like!

Because this class is not being held physically, you can join in the fun and create these projects at any time that works better for you this summer.
By registering we will prepare your supply box ahead of time and have it ready for your pick up.

Create unique whimsical garden art using a variety of materials found in nature – sticks, stones, and wood –
and adding other materials such as paint and fabric scraps.
Put these creations in your garden or any place outdoors or even ware for artful fun!

This virtual class will come with kits for four art projects as well as a list of a few things you will need to search for outdoors.
You will be linked to a video with your instructor Lana Sjoberg for ideas and instruction on creating a Garden Totem, a garden inspired T-shirt, a Found Stick Mobile and a fanciful, Garden Stake.

The video will offer suggestions of other possibilities with any of your unused supplies!
Lana's email will also be available for you to contact her with any questions, ideas or problems and a possible Facetime chat, if necessary.
A time will be set up for all campers to participate in a class show-and-tell "Zoom" meeting at camps end!

Lana Sjoberg was one of our instructors for our Runs with Scissors camp that we had to cancel. Lana is one of our most beloved instructors - those of you registered for Runs with Scissors might want to move into this new camp with her!

We are definitely leaning toward cancelling this wonderful experience as social distancing would be impossible.
We're waiting to make our final decision in July, when this all becomes more clear.

Poppy Lear has been directing young people for more than 25 years. She directs the musical plays for all four middle schools in Rochester.

Amy Heetland has been teaching piano locally in Rochester for the past 20 years.

Please be patient with us, as no refunds will be available until July.

(Exception: If you'd like to transfer your student into one of the above camps that is a go, in order to be sure they get to camp this summer, we're happy to do that & refund any over payments.)
