John Gorka delivers everything a folk musician should: His music tells stories, expresses deep emotion, and invites listeners to reflect. The audience is drawn right in to the heart of the music by Gorka’s remarkable baritone voice and the clear tones of his guitar.

Gorka is widely regarded as “one of contemporary folk music’s leading talents” (Vintage Guitar). The singer/songwriter, known for his wry take on the human condition, released an album, “Before Beginning,” in 2016.

His unique sound and lyrical insight have earned him generations of devoted fans and a career that’s found him gracing the stages of PBS’ Austin City Limits, NPR’s Mountain Stage and venues worldwide.

Gorka, a Minnesota transplant born and raised in New Jersey, has recorded almost a dozen solo albums. Many well-known artists have recorded and/or performed John Gorka songs, including Mary Chapin Carpenter and Nanci Griffith, both of whom he also has toured with.

In addition to his 13 critically acclaimed albums, Gorka released a collector’s edition box featuring a hi-definition DVD and companion CD called The Gypsy Life. Windham Hill also released a collection of his greatest hits from the label called Pure John Gorka. In 2010, he released an album with his friends and Red House label-mates Lucy Kaplansky and Eliza Gilkyson under the name Red Horse. Getting high praise from critics and fans alike, it landed on the Billboard Folk Charts and was one of the most played albums on folk radio.

Rolling Stone has called Gorka “the preeminent male singer/songwriter of the new folk movement.”
