Surface Decoration and Glazing Techniques with Devon Gelhar

Devon Gelhar is a Bachelor of Fine Arts candidate in Studio Art, with an emphasis in Ceramics and Art History at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. She will be attending Syracuse University in the fall of 2017 to continue her studies and pursue a Master of Fine Art degree in Ceramics.

Devon discovered and fell in love with ceramics in high school, and enjoyed it as a hobby for many years before deciding to go back to school to make it her career. She produces a range of functional ceramic wares, considering herself foremost to be a potter. She works primarily with Earthenware clay, enjoying the rich red clay and the bright color palate she can achieve on her pots. When not in the studio making, she likes to spend time outdoors rock climbing and exploring the natural areas around her.

This class is perfect for wheel throwers and hand builders, as well as painters interested in exploring another painting surface!

We will be using various colored slips, underglazes, and terra sigillata to explore color, pattern, and decorating the surface of clay.

Surface decoration is a great way to expand your skill set and broaden your ceramic horizon. We will have a variety of leatherhard and bisqued ceramic test tiles for you to experiment and practice on in a low-risk atmosphere!

Reservations are taken on a first come first serve basis. Many of our classes fill up early - so don't wait too long!
