Day of the Dead Sugar Skull Mosaics

Create a mosaic Sugar Skull, a traditional symbol used in Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations. Deb D'Souza teaches this four-week class starting Tues., Oct. 3, 6-9pm.

No prior art experience necessary, just the openness to learn and have fun. We will discuss basic history of the holiday, techniques and materials traditionally used for mosaics. You will learn about tools, substrates, adhesives, cutting and working with stained glass and other materials, grouting and finishing options. We will make our own substrates.

Your individual mosaic Sugar Skull will measure 12"x12".

All use of tools and materials to finish your mosaic will be provided. (Substrate materials, assorted glass, adhesive, grout.) You will come away with the basic knowledge to move forward on your new mosaic adventure.

On our first class, select the base for your own mosaic from an assortment of Sugar Skull patterns. Once you have selected your “Skull” we will cut out the design and cover it with mesh & thin set. The following sessions will be focused on designing our mosaics, grouting. We will finish our class with an exhibit of all our creations on October 24th with an early Day of the Dead Celebration.
