Let's Make Something Round with Spencer Johannes

Spencer is a studio potter from Sartell, Minnesota. He graduated from Moorhead State University Minnesota in the spring of 2017 where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an Emphasis in Illustration, a Bachelor of Fine Arts with Emphasis Ceramics, and Certificate in Professional Portfolio Development. While attending college, Spencer thought he wanted to be an illustrator, but once he discovered his passion for clay, there was no turning back.

He currently resides in Rochester, Minnesota. One of his personal achievements was obtaining the necessary equipment to run a ceramic studio within six months of graduating college. Since he began his studio, his work has been exhibited throughout the United States, and he has been featured in the “Design & Living Magazine.” These days you can find Spencer working in his studio, enjoying time with family and friends, learning a new craft, or playing board games.

Learn ways in shaping and pushing clay to its limit! In this class, we will go over how you can turn a basic cylinder into a variety of forms such as a moon jar, bottle, bud vase, and learn how to create a yo-yo jar. These are just a few of the forms you can turn a cylinder into.

Some wheel-throwing experience is preferred. These classes have a maximum of ten students, ensuring plenty of student-to-teacher contact time. (grades 7+ to adults)

This five-week class is on Tuesdays, March 15 - April 12 from 6:30-9 pm.

Wear old clothes and get ready to work the wheel. Tool kits are available through Crossings. The supply fee includes one bag of clay (25 pounds), all glazing materials, and the use of studio tools.

Price is $125, with $18 supplies and $3 per piece for firing.

Please remember - if you are not feeling well, have a fever, or have been exposed to someone ill; please stay home. For the safety of everyone, the instructor will wear a mask and you are encouraged to do the same.
