Crossings is embarking on a new project aimed at elevating our commitment to the written word as an artistic expression.
While we always have recognized writing as an art form – and celebrated writing in our Poetography and Poet-Artist Collaboration exhibitions – we want to establish a haven where regional writers can g
ather, share their work, encourage each other and learn through highly relevant classes.

Crossings already has served as mid-wife to the births of high-quality, highly valued and truly cohesive communities for visual artists and musicians, and we want to do the same for writers. Our building blocks will be:

OOO•Classes
OOO•Workshops
OOO•Open mic readings
OOO•Writers’ consortium
OOO•Book club emphasizing modern literature

We also need YOU, committed writers who will “live” in this community, as our designers and architects. Therefore, we cordially invite you to join us for a day to share your ideas and together, help Crossings draw up plans for this endeavor.
Join us on Saturday, September 18, 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., for a seminar featuring two chances to attend breakout sessions and enjoy our luncheon speaker Faith Sullivan Here, we will

OOO•Reveal information gleaned from the enclosed survey
OOO•Discuss our collaborative vision for a writers’ community
OOO•Connect
OOO•Share our talents

The schedule for the day is as follows:

10:30 – 11 a.m. Meet for coffee and hobnob with other writers.

11 – 11:45 a.m. Brainstorming: We’ll ask writers to break into separate groups to work as think tanks based on their interests and survey responses.

Noon – 1 p.m. Lunch with author Faith Sullivan speaking

1 – 2 p.m. Come together as a whole to outline specific ways Crossings and participants can work together for writers.

Cost for the day (includes a sandwich and dessert bar, with lemonade and coffee): $12.

As a special thank you to attendees and survey respondents, participants will be included in the Crossings Writers’ Directory, our first opportunity to connect us ALL together for further collaboration.

Please complete the enclosed survey, even if you cannot attend our September seminar.

"Crossings is one of my favorite places to teach. I love it not only for its wonderful, engaging students, but for the warmth and vitality of the art gallery space. Crossings is a great place to be a writer." – Alison McGhee

Author Faith Sullivan will speak over the lunch hour at this special event meant to foster connections between writers who want to help establish a writing community.

The day will include two rounds of one-hour break-out sessions and discussions about how Crossings can encourage Southeast Minnesota writers and help them reach their full potential.

Faith Sullivan is the author of three novels set in the fictional town of Harvester, Minnesota—“The Cape Ann,” “The Empress of One,” and “What a Woman Must Do.”

A Crossings Writers Directory, listing attendees, will be distributed to participants.

"Faith Sullivan's beloved, bestselling novel “The Cape Ann,” (followed by several other beautiful books), put her on the map as a writer, and her lively, warm presence makes every gathering special. Faith Sullivan is a Minnesota treasure!" -Alison McGhee
